This Nikon 300mm f4.5 Nikkor *ED lens is a long telephoto lens that employed ED (Extra Low Dispersion) glass optics in its design for improved performance and image quality. This version features a more slender barrel construction as well as a reduced minimum focusing distance (8.2ft or 2.5m). It also has a built-in retractable lens hood and a removable tripod collar.
This is the last version of this lens with the AIS version of the Nikon F lens mount. It is designed to work with Nikon manual focus cameras from the F2A on and have additional compatibility with those that made use of the AIS modifications. It is still backward compatible with Nikon cameras requiring the Non-AI lens mount.
